Introduction
------------
InCOPYnito(TM) is a copyright aide for software developers that works
in Windows 3.1. With InCOPYnito the software developer can conveniently
prepare listings for copyright applications. Because of the right of
software developers to protect trade secrets, software copyright
applications can blank out the trade secret portion of their software
up to a certain percentage of the source code submitted. See the
appropriate U.S. Copyright Office circulars for more precise information.
This software can conveniently mark those file lines to be covered
over. The user can print out code listings with sections of code
blacked out for the copyright application, and can also print out
listings with the same lines highlighted. This lets the user keep
a record of what exactly was claimed as trade secret.
Price
-----
The price is $71 for a single copy. Quantity discounts and site
licenses are available. A limited function shareware version is
available so that the user can see if he likes the concept behind
the software. The shareware version can only input files up to
certain size limits (about 18K or limited by size of the near heap)
and does not include support for pagination.
Installation
------------
To install, run setup.exe from the distribution diskette.
You can use the Run option under File in the menu bar of
Program Manager, or you may open File Manager and click
on setup.exe on the A drive (assuming this is the drive the
floppy disk is in.)
Enter the information requested by setup. When all the
information is properly entered, InCOPYnito will be available
via icon in the Windows group you have chosen.
You may have to work with the printer setup settings to get
proper graying effects. Look at printer setup help, and the
corresponding options help in order to find out more about
grayscale, halftoning, and dithering chioces. Some hardware
manufacturers ask that the user experiment with these options
until satisfactory results are achieved. InCOPYnito uses standard
Windows bit-block transfer functions. You may wish to contact
the hardware manufacturer to get a printer driver for your hardware
that can support the claim for Windows compatibility.
There are now two versions of printing calls available in the
advanced options menu. Many printers which have trouble graying
and covering over lines with Version 1 have success with Version 2.
The software works with the HP Laserjet 4 printer driver for
Windows 3.1 using the HP-GL/2 option in Printer | Setup | Options.
With the Raster option, it works fine if the Print TrueType as
Graphics option is left unchecked. Both these cases use Version 1
printer GDI calls.
For Windows NT 4.0, the HP Laserjet 4 printer driver works with
Version 2 printer GDI calls.
It also works under Windows 3.1 with the HP Deskjet 520 using the
greyscale option chosen in the options dialog box and Version 1 calls.
Success was achieved with the GCC Selectpress 1200 dpi machine under
Windows 3.1 with Version 2 calls.
